What CPF LIFE pays in 2026

CPF LIFE turns your CPF savings into income for life. For those turning 55 in 2026, the three retirement sums and their rough monthly payouts from age 65:

Retirement sum (at 55)AmountMonthly payout from 65
Basic (BRS)$110,200~$950
Full (FRS)$220,400~$1,780
Enhanced (ERS)$440,800~$3,440

Standard Plan estimates. A strong, government-backed annuity floor — but for most people a foundation to build on, not the whole roof.

What this means for you

For your money: Singapore's Minimum Income Standard research puts a single retiree's basic needs around $1,500 a month. So the Full sum's ~$1,780 covers the essentials with a little over — and the Basic sum's ~$950 doesn't cover them at all without family support or other income.

For your life: translate the numbers into weeks, not spreadsheets. $1,780 is hawker meals, utilities, the MRT, and the occasional treat. The retirement with travel, hobbies and restaurant dinners with grandchildren is funded by whatever you build on top of this floor — that's the gap to start closing in your forties and fifties, not at 64.

02 The quiet win

Waiting pays — for life

The instinct

Start payouts at 65 — take the money as soon as it's available.

The maths

Each year you defer lifts your payout by up to 7% — up to +35% for waiting until 70. Locked in for the rest of your life.

If you have other income in your late sixties, deferring CPF LIFE is one of the highest-value, lowest-effort moves available — and, true to form, nobody earns a commission suggesting it.

What this means for you

For your money: on the Full sum, deferring to 70 lifts ~$1,780 to roughly $2,400 a month — an extra ~$620 every month for the rest of your life. The price is covering those five years yourself.

For your life: think of it as insurance for your 85-year-old self — the version of you most likely to need money and least able to earn it. It only works if 65 to 70 is already funded by work you enjoy or savings you've set aside. If it isn't, start at 65 without guilt; the best plan is the one that doesn't strain the years you're actually living.

03 The honest picture

Income vs the life you want

Lay it out plainly: expected monthly income (CPF LIFE + any annuities, rental, part-time or investment income) against the monthly spending you actually want in retirement. The gap — or surplus — is your real planning number.

The takeaway

For most people, CPF LIFE covers the essentials and a managed portfolio fills the gap to the life they want — drawn down carefully so it lasts. Building and managing that income engine, and pacing the drawdown, is the heart of what I do. How I help →
